Natural Tunnel

On Friday, Maggie and her lifelong friend and I drove to Natural Tunnel, a Virginia state park. We hiked to the tunnel with a chorus of this is boring for about two minutes. Then, the walk or the flowers somehow turned their attention to other matters. The Natural Tunnel has a train track that runs through it. This is just about the spot where the story is told that two lovers leaped to their death in the raging waters. Solomon's Seal and Columbine were all along the trails. The wind was catching the redbud petals tossing them to and fro as we walked. Trilium filled the hillsides as we passed the Carter Cabin. The small iris were just beginning to flower. A nice way to spend a day with two of my favorite girls.
