Poetry for Thursday

An Iris bloomed
opening her petals
to embrace the sun
one bloom a year
my brother said
we smiled
as we admired
the stately flower
standing tall
amid green leaves
in a sandy yard
in Florida
snow covers mountains
mourning dove
burrows into herself
fluffing out feathers
ninety minutes from iris to snow
